Record swim attempt on Loch Ness marks nuclear accident
A group of submariners connected to Russian submarine K-19, will attempt to establish a world record for the fastest width swim of Loch Ness.
The event is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the nuclear accident aboard Soviet submarine K-19, in which 8 crew members died as a result of their exposure to lethal doses of radiation received during emergency repairs in the reactor compartment.Their ultimate sacrifice averted a major Superpower incident, an environmental disaster and saved their colleagues aboard the K-19.
Hollywood made an international blockbuster, K-19 The Widowmaker, with Harrison Ford as the Captain.
Captain Oleg Adamov (Last Captain of the K-19) will lead the team in Drumnadrochit on Sunday July 10th 2011 at 12.40pm
The swim will start on the southern shore directly opposite Urquhart Castle and finish at Urquhart Castle pier.
