EDITOR’S BLOG: A beautiful game

It’s not often I write about football. If I’m honest I’m not a big fan and rarely watch it. But who cannot revel in the joy of Ross County beating SPL giants Celtic today.

No-one will be celebrating more than the team after their epic 2-0 win at Hampden, but if they stir such a feeling of absolute victory in me, then I know the effect of this win will be felt far and wide.

It’s not just a sporting win. Yes, it’s a win for the fans who have followed their club loyally for many years, and some may say the fans of Ross County are particularly loyal bunch. They travelled to Hampden, 8,000 of them, and were rewarded not only with a win, but a deserved win, a clear win and a damn good game.

But there are many more back at home, even fans of other teams who will enjoy this win for what it is – a true victory.

It’s a win for Dingwall, not only for the beer that will flow tonight, but for the town as a whole who have seen ‘their’ club, fans or not, beat Celtic to go through to the Scottish Cup Final.

And it’s a win for the Highlands as a whole who have now seen this happen on more than one occasion. That’s no coincidence.
