EDITOR’S BLOG: Moray Firth Live moves forward with redesign
Today sees the launch of a new design for Moray Firth Live. And we hope you like the new clean, fresh look.
But it’s not just a redesign, it marks a point where we start to get serious about improving it. We’ve spent a lot of time working on the layout and we think we’ve got something which will be functional yet nice to look at.
We’ve rearranged a few things, but we’ve made it more user-friendly so you won’t have any difficulting finding anything, but you will see several new features come online over the next few months.
Some of the new features you’ll find today:
- Picture box – serving a selection of pictures from recent news stories
- National news ticker – a selection of UK news snippets just to keep you informed
- Links to other media resources – from all over the Highlands, Moray and Aberdeenshire
- News and links digest in your email
And we are keeping the old features which we know you like:
- Popular posts – we’ll highlight what you’re looking at most
- Geotagging – view articles by location
- What’s On – we’re working with a major content company to bring you even better event listings
It’s also still a work-in-progress and there are many features still in development. Some of which we’re happy to tell you about right now:
- Better mobile support – We see lots of you are using your smartphones to access our site, so we’re improving support for devices such as iPhone, iPad, Android, etc
- Link shortening -We have our own link-shortening service which will go online soon
- Traffic news – Traffic news was very popular during the big freeze, so we’re going to bring it to you in a very interesting way
- Weather – You asked for weather news, so that’s on our list too
- New sections - We’ve been promising new sections for a while, so we’re going to start rolling them out soon, starting with a standalone Business section.
And there’s also a few things in the longer-term pipeline which we’ll keep under wraps for now.
We’re proud of our product, and we’re grateful to all those who’ve helped us along the way. Moray Firth Live goes from strength to strength with the support of the people of the north and north-east.
Moray Firth Live was devised as a social media project by our parent firm Canary Dwarf which designs and installs content management systems for websites and helps companies make better use of their online presence through their content.
We built the site as a model for other content providers who needed expert advice on publishing digitally. It relies on social networks such as Twitter and Facebook to distribute news and information through video, audio, text, pictures and links. But Google is still the biggest referrer of traffic to morayfirthlive.com which has optimised its content for individual articles.
Let me finish by thanking our readers and contributors for their continued support and of course our ‘linkees’ for their continued provision of high quality reporting.
